Suam Trail Mount Elgon
Suam Trail Mount Elgon is one of the most famous hiking trails on Mount Elgon. You will meet a good number of plant life including the endemic plant species such as the unique giant fleshy herbs like lobelias and groundsels that can grow up to 5 meters above in height. You will also see the clusters of peculiar big plants. Amazing scenic views, birdlife and a long trail is so dramatic, making it the perfect way to explore and experience nature in the wild.
The Suam trail Mount Elgon unveils a magnificent and uncluttered wilderness of Elgon Mountain. With a 4,000km² width, Mt. Elgon National Park has the largest volcanic base in the world. Located on the Uganda – Kenya border it is also the oldest and largest solitary and volcanic mountain in East Africa. Its vast form, 80km in diameter, rises more than 3,000m above the surrounding plains. The mountain’s cool heights offer respite from the hot plains below, with the higher altitudes providing a refuge for flora and fauna.
After visiting Mount Elgon National Park, you can extend your journey with an amazing wildlife game drive in the nearby Kidepo Valley National Park or extend further west for a wildlife safari to Murchison Falls National Park. Here, you will encounter the Big 5 including the rhinos, African elephants, buffaloes, lions and leopards, making Murchison Falls National Park Uganda’s most spectacular wildlife reserve. A full-day nature hike leads from Budadiri to the Mudange cliffs, known as the Walls of Death, at the boundary of the national park.
