Piswa Trail Mount Elgon
Piswa Trail Mount Elgon is among the three major hiking trails in mountain Elgon National Park that leads Wagagai Peak. It is considered as the longest trial covering a distance of about 49km round trip and the less strenuous and easiest trail to hike up to the Wagagai Peak.
The trail is gentle, making it very easier for mountain hikers. Hiking through Piswa trail offers you an experience of viewing wildlife mammals with spectacular views of the Karamoja plains in Uganda and the Nandi and Kapeguria hills in Kenya. In addition, this gives you a rear chance of seeing the hot springs and a variety of birdlife on the way to the caldera and the peaks as you’re passing thorough Piswa trail.
Hiking through Piswa Trail starts from the northern part of the Mount Elgon at Kapktwata gate at 2,190m on far East side near Suam Trail at the border between the Republic of Kenya and Uganda. Traversing through the wood plantation to podocarpus forest. The hike counts seven days when you return via the Sipi trail and six days via the Sasa trail. All these offer you amazing scenery and unforgettable memories during your stay at Mount Elgon National Park.
Hiking mountain Elgon requires some fitness, however, no specialized equipment or advanced mountaineering skill level to hike through Piswa trail up to wagagai peak, like hiking Mount Rwenzori commonly known as the rooftop of Uganda.
