On this 8 days Mount Elgon hiking safari you will visit Mount Elgon National Park, Uganda with the largest volcanic base in the world. Mount Elgon is located on the Uganda-Kenya border, and it is also the oldest and largest solitary, volcanic mountain in East Africa.
On your first day of climbing Mount Elgon, you will be so amazed from 2,300m above to Sasa River Camp. This 8 days of hiking Mount Elgon is the greatest opportunity for you to climb and hike Elgon Mountain to its highest peak, Wagagai.

Mount Elgon Hiking Safari Itinerary:
Day 1: Kampala – Mbale
After breakfast, we will be met by our local guides then set off east –bound to Mountain Elgon via Jinja, visiting the source of the Nile. Thereafter, you will drive to Mbale with your lunch en route.
Overnight stay and dinner at Mount Elgon Hotel. Meal Plan: Lunch and dinner.
Day 2: Start the Hike Sasa River Camp (2,300M)
A climb starts in the morning, so you will ascend via the Sasa trail and then descend via the Piswa trail. This journey takes approximately 4 hours. From Budadiri, you may take on the trail that leads to Sasa River Camp and this may take approximately 2 hours. Meal plan: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 3: Sasa River Camp -Mude Cave (3,900M)
From Sasa River camp, you will climb to Sasa Patrol Hut (2hrs). From Sasa Patrol Hut take on a one hour climb to Mude Cave campsite. If you are experienced or a stronger climber, you may leave Mude and continue climbing up to Jackson’s summit 4,192 m (2hrs climb).
Dinner and overnight stay at Mude Cave. Meal Plan: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 4: Mude Cave – Wagagai Peak – Part of Mount Elgon Hiking Safari
Early in the morning, climb from Mude Cave climb to Wagagai Peak (4,321 m). This takes approximately 4 hours. After resting, you will return to Mude Cave for an overnight stay. Meal plan: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 5: Mude Cave – Hunters Cave Camp
From Mude Cave descend to the Caldera and Hot Springs (4hrs). Camp at the Caldera to hunter’s Cave after a 4-hours journey. Meal plan: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day 6: Hunters Cave Camp – Tatum Cave
Proceed to explore the famous Tatum Cave with ancient cave painting and overnight stay at the Tatum Camp. Meal Plan: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Day 7: Tatum Cave – Sipi Caves – Part of Mount Elgon Hiking Safari
Descend from Tatum Cave camp to the park headquarters about 4 hours to visit Sipi Falls where you will take an option walk to Sipi caves and enjoy Sipi falls over 50m high. Dinner and overnight stay at Lacam Lodge. Meal Plan: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day 8: Mbale – Kampala/Entebbe Out
Return to Kampala, arriving in Jinja in time for lunch, the afternoon is spent at the source of the Nile, before continuing to Kampala and Entebbe for your flight connection back home or to your next destination. Meal plan: B & L

Important to Climbers:
- Climbers must be prepared to walk for up to 3-5 hours every day via steep cliff and muddy paths
- Climbers must bring along their own climbing gear or hire it at the base camp
- Our porters carry 8 kg of personal climbing gear
